Erasmus+ Key Action 1 project – Mobility of young people and youth workers.
YOUTH MAP is an educational project on the use of participatory and urban mapping methodologies to promote the participation of young people at risk of social exclusion, especially in terms of active citizenship. Both mobility focused on the observation and mapping of the Capo-Monte di Pietà district of Palermo through the research of its resources, interviews with its inhabitants and the formulation of proposals for renewal.
The project was carried out in two editions in 2018 and 2019 and provided for the implementation of two mobility schemes: a training course for youth workers and a youth exchange. The two editions were attended by educators and young people from Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland and Portugal.
The first edition included the participation as trainers of the organization Sguardi Urbani of Palermo, which shared with the participants information on participatory methodologies and how to use them in educational contexts at risk. In the second edition of the project the educational activities focused on urban mapping, urban stratification and graphic illustration as tools for observation and analysis of the urban territory. Through the production of sketches the young participants showed the information collected during the mapping and interviews and created a collective map containing their vision of the neighbourhood.
