URBEX II, by following the previous URBEX – Urban exploration as an educational tool, introduces the concept of neighbourhoods as open educational spaces where young people, by interacting with the main component of an urban neighbourhood, learn to face new urban challenges, to enhance their living space and to propose innovative ideas to improve their cities and the local environment. In Urbex, public space becomes the relevant resource to be rediscovered and valorised in order to create local awareness and allow young people to emerge from passive to active agents of change, revealing hidden opportunities. According to this idea, neighbourhoods themselves are transformed into an “educational community” as a city space where young people can learn by interacting with their school, families and friends, social institutions and organisations in their neighbourhood such as museums, libraries or cultural centres. The project includes a series of local and international activities such as training for educators, a youth exchange and workshops aimed at exploring the Capo district of Palermo. URBEX II is carried out simultaneously in Berlin, Palermo, Lisbon, Beaulieu sur Dordogne and Séville.
