COMmunity ENgagement for Social Inclusion – aims to understand the reasons why adults at risk of exclusion do not actively participate in their community.
The project aims to strengthen social cohesion among adults at risk of social exclusion in five local urban contexts, strengthening the role of residents and citizens and promoting active participation in their communities. A digital atlas has been designed for each local community to visualize and share citizens’ needs and ideas in order to improve their neighbourhood. Community spaces (called Neighbourhood Hubs) have also been promoted to enable discussion and participation in the five European neighbourhoods.
To share the lessons and results of this work, a toolkit for adult educators has been created, with suggestions on how to use the COMENSI method, and a handbook to guide activists and organisations interested in creating community spaces. These resources are intended as Open Educational Resources available to practitioners working in the adult education sector.
